We were blown away in 2015 by the runners and walkers who came out on a cold and rainy day in March for the first-ever Kristin’s 5K for Kids. A little weather couldn’t keep us from having a good time for a good cause.
But we wouldn't want you to risk pneumonia again this year sooo...we're shaking things up and making the 2nd annual Kristin's 5K for Kids a 'virtual' race. That means it can be done any time and in any location, as long as it falls on July 16th or 17th. Rain on Saturday? Wait until Sunday! On vacation? Run on the beach! This virtual race will work around your schedule. How it Works You register for the virtual race like you would any other race, we'll mail you a bib (and t-shirt if you choose). Then at the time of your choosing on July 16th or 17th you hit the road or trails or treadmill for 3.1 miles. When you've finished, post a picture to Facebook or Instagram using #Kristins5KforKids. Easy-peasy, right? Why We Run We started Kristin’s 5K for Kids to honor our dear friend Kristin Lynch (1975-2003). Kristin was born and raised in Northumberland, PA and graduated from Shikellamy High School in 1993. During high school, she was a star athlete as a member of the Varsity softball team and the cheerleading squad. She went to East Stroudsburg University for her undergraduate degree and received a Master’s Degree from Bloomsburg University in early childhood education. It was her love of athletics and children that inspired this event and brought it to life. |
How We Help
Because Kristin loved her time at Mt. Luther Camp when she was in fifth grade, 100% of the race proceeds will go to Save Shikellamy Fifth Grade Camp. The trip to Mt. Luther has been a tradition since for decades. But now it’s facing the chopping block and we want to be sure Shikellamy's future fifth grade students get to experience the great outdoors with their classmates while developing leadership skills, interpersonal skills, survival skills, self-confidence, and so much more!
